After being around children for even a short amount of time, it’s quite obvious that sanitation is not their first concern. However, as a parent, it is important to ensure that the objects children play with and use are cleaned regularly with the proper cleaning products.
In an effort to reduce the use of any harmful chemicals in typical cleaners, we have some suggestions for natural cleaning solutions that you can easily make yourself. Depending on what you are cleaning, the methods are slightly altered.
- General Toys: Between children putting toys in their mouth, dropping them, and constantly touching them, it doesn’t take very long for them to accumulate germs. An easy solution would be to mix equal parts of water and distilled white vinegar and wipe down the toys with a cloth lightly dampened by the mixture.
- Stuffed Animals: Not only do stuffed animals carry germs, but they accumulate dust as well. Place any dirty animals in the washing machine, and combine about 3 tablespoons of white vinegar and a pinch of baking soda to use as a detergent and run it on a low cycle. Afterwards, either let them air dry or place dryer safe ones in the dryer on a low cycle.
Properly cleaning your children’s toys can prevent the spread of germs and keep them from getting sick as well.
